Tamalone is situated around 50 km from Yangon city. There are about 120,000 people live around the various villages within the township.
Majority of the population in this area is of Indian Tamil migrants where a small group of Burmese people live among them as well. Tamil and Burmese languages are spoken in this area. Although they are of Hindu background, there is an acceptance for our missionaries to share the gospel.
People in this rural-urban fringe area are slum dwellers making their living by doing odd jobs in the nearby Yangon city. Under resourced schools, poor sanitation and difficulty in accessing basic healthcare facilities are causing a catastrophic effect on the community. Unemployment and poverty are very common and youth and adult men are resorting to alcoholism.
Peniel Missions missionary Bro. John Savarimuthu is in-charge of this centre. He comes from Catholic background. As he was attending a revival meeting, he was burdened by the spiritual need of his village and obeyed God’s call to commit his life for ministry. His wife Sis. Josephine is a registered nurse and quit her job to join her husband in the ministry. She regularly conducts Medical Camps in and around the village. They are blessed with a 2-year-old girl child Rebeca.
Our programs are designed to equip young adult women and youth in this community with skills to find employment and generate income to support their family. Also, provide counselling and guidance to children and youth to complete High School and enrol for vocation courses.
Started in December 2018. At present, around 20 people attend the service. 6 young adult women attend Tailoring courses, 4 youth attending computer courses and around 40 children attend after-school tuition classes.
